Usage

This is a utility template used by Template:Taxonomy. The purpose is to ensure that if a taxon name at species rank or lower has an abbreviated genus name, when displayed there is no line break between the genus abbreviation and the specific name or epithet.

It does this by replacing the first occurrence of ". " by ". ".
